Baptismal Enrollment

“By Baptism, we share in the redemptive act of Jesus’ death and Resurrection, are freed from Original Sin, and are strengthened against the power of sin and death.  We are reconciled to God and made members of his holy people, the Church. “(United States Catholic Catechism for Adults)

“Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ.  In accordance with the Lord’s will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism.”  (CCC, no. 1277)

Contact us at any time during pregnancy or following the birth of your child.  The sacrament is normally celebrated at one of the Sunday (or Saturday Vigil) liturgies the second full weekend of the month, except during Lent and Advent.  Parent Preparation classes are required with the Baptism of your first child and are scheduled the first Thursday of each month.  Please complete the BAPTISMAL REGISTRATION FORM and call the office for details and to register for the next scheduled class. Please read the Baptism Information sheet for a summary of the entire preparation and liturgical journey. Please note that if you plan to invite someone to serve as a Godparent who is a member of a parish that is not St. Thomas the Apostle, please have she/he discern the Godparent Information sheet, as well as obtain her/his pastor’s signed permission on the same sheet, and return the signed paper prior to the celebration.

Contact should be made as soon as baptism is desired.  The process of preparation is dependent on the age and background knowledge of your child.  Normally if your child is younger than age six then preparation is similar to that of infant baptism and the sacrament is celebrated at one of the weekend liturgies.  For children over the age of six, they will receive instruction and preparation for the sacrament.

ADULT BAPTISM:  Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Classes begin in the fall, however, contact should be made whenever one is led by the Spirit to become a member of the Catholic community.  Preparation usually takes 1-2 years but varies depending on each individual’s experience, and the time of year when first initial contact is made.  The Sacraments of Initiation will be celebrated at the Easter Vigil Mass.
